Varieties to look for

Full Bell Lines (FBL)

Look at the bottom of the bell on the reverse. If the horizontal lines are complete and unbroken, the coin is Full Bell Lines and commands a premium in Mint State, often several times the price of an ordinary strike.

Mint mark position

D and S sit above the bell's yoke on the reverse. Philadelphia coins have none.

Cleaning

Many Franklins were dipped. Original frosty luster is preferred.
