The Walking Liberty Half Dollar, in brief
Adolph A. Weinman's Walking Liberty half dollar was struck from 1916 to 1947 in 90% silver. It shows Liberty walking toward the sunrise with a branch of laurel and oak, and a bald eagle on a mountain pine on the reverse. The design was revived on the American Silver Eagle in 1986. Mint marks moved from the obverse to the reverse during 1917, which makes the 1917-D and 1917-S coins two separate issues.
Circulated Walking Liberty halves are worth their silver plus a small premium. Early-date issues from the 1910s and 1920s are worth far more in good condition, and the 1921 coins and the 1938-D are the key dates.
